Brewster phosphate mine

Back in December, I made a weekend trip to Sarasota and found this old phosphate mine along the way. It's located in Brewster, but you probably won't find that on any map. The company town was abandoned a long time ago and the buildings are mostly gone, but a few of them—including the smokestack visible from the main road—remain.

I hopped a fence—shh, don't tell anyone—and crossed a field of long, wet grass to get inside for a few minutes on a rainy day. I think it would be a lot more interesting without a drab, gray sky, but maybe I'll go back someday for more photos. I didn't want to miss this opportunity, so here we go.
